The concept of the beer came from the video game Anteater, an obscure release by Tago Electronics from 1982 and a staff favorite at our Chelsea Barcade location. We had a pre-brewing ant tasting in the brew house and the taste of one single ant was probably the most tart thing any of us had ever tasted. We brewed a 10 barrel batch of the beer and used one pound of dried whole ants for the entire batch. This beer was brewed at Cape Ann Brewing on February 7th, 2018 with assistance from Barcade staff. This beer is black in color with a dark chocolate aroma and flavor, and a slightly tart finish. An Imperial Stout brewed with cocoa nibs and black ants.
